The Life of a Future Teacher

Because in order to teach writing, I must be a writer myself…

Spring Break! March 10, 2008

was not very springy at all! it was so freezing all week!

my mom and sister and i went to the shore though, and got to see my grandma and aunt for a little girls weekend which was nice :)

and then i was a substitute teacher all break…which gave way to some pretty good stories!

in 4th grade one day, i was speaking spanish to one of the esl kids. the other kids were impressed that i knew spanish, and i told them that it was really important to learn other languages. later on in the day, they were working on sign language and we played sign language hangman, and one little boy raised his hand and said “miss d, you know spanish AND sign language? what? do you have your PhD?!” it was pretty cute!

in one school they had reached their reading goal, and so they brought in daisy, the national “reading pig” and there was this huge assembly. all the teachers (including my reluctant self) had to wear pig noses, and then the principal had to kiss the pig! i was SO glad i wasn’t subbing for the principal that day!!

i got to deal with my first bloody nose, and all of the chaos it entailed. i was actually quite proud of myself for that one, usually i would have been freaking out at the mere sight of blood, but i must say that i handled it quite well!

we had a girl cryyyyying, hysterically, because “she has my birfday pencil! i know it was mine! it was in my desk.” yeah, i handled that one well too, “oh hey look, this pencil has a point at BOTH ends! wouldn’t that be cool to use?” that stopped the crying.

and finally. a card “you are the best subsatoot ever!” precious.
