The Life of a Future Teacher

Because in order to teach writing, I must be a writer myself…

Today I presented my students with a Learning Center, dealing with Tuck Everlasting. I made the learning center into a waterfall–trying to be creative with the spring of everlasting life in the story! Anway, students are supposed to go to this Learning Center with a partner, and have the option of writing a story, writing a newspaper article, creating a Venn Diagram, creating a story map, or creating a board game. I gave them all kinds of art supplies to use.

Everything went so well! They were so excited about the center and talking to each other about what they wanted to do! I was really happy that they seemed interested. When I was leaving, I got hugs from six fifth graders. Fifth graders! Aren’t they supposed to hate their teachers?! It was pretty sweet.

And. I got the most amazing quote of my career so far. Brace yourself.

“Miss D, you are the BEASTest wannabe teacher ever!”

Just look at that for a minute. Not BESTest…BEASTest. As in, I’m a beast. I guess that’s a compliment?

I love fifth grade.
